Acne and Oily Skin

What causes oily skin?

Is your skin often shiny, and your makeup easily “sweats” off your face? Our body naturally produces oil(sebum) to help keep our skin soft and supple, however, if too much sebum is produced, it can lead to outbreaks and acne. Hormones and genetics are two main reasons for the oily skin.

During puberty and other life events, fluctuating hormones can result in increased androgens levels that cause oily skin. The excess oil may then become trapped in the pore together with dead skin cells and bacteria on the surface of the skin causing pimples, blackheads and other blemishes.

What treatments are available?

Oily skin may fade over time for some people, but not for everyone. There are certainly ways to reduce the oily skin and acne!

  1. Hydra Facial – The hydra facial makes use of a non-invasive skin-resurfacing technology to cleanse, extract, exfoliate and hydrate even sensitive skin. Read more here. (hyperlink to hydra facial)
  2. Lasers can also be used to control sebum production. Read more about the lasers below!
    • Clear + Brilliant
    • IPL Wave length 420 Narrowband
    • Discovery PICO Laser
    • Omnilux 420 Blue light to control acne.

Which products are recommended?

  1. EHA Acne Clear – An anti-inflammatory treatment without antibiotics, retinoid acid or steroid for acne and oily skin. It treats and prevents acne by controlling excessive sebum production, inflammation and the proliferation of bacteria.
  2. EHA Hydra Serum – With high concentration of Hyaluronic acid, the Hydra serum ensure that your skin stays hydrated and protected throughout the day. A common misconception is that moisturizer should not be used with oily skin types. However, that is not true! Avoiding moisturizer may dry out your skin and cause your glands to produce more sebum, resulting in more oil.
  3. EHA Sun Shield 24hr with SPF 100 has been proven to block both UV-A and UV-B rays by 99% for a period of 24 hours, with just one application. Sun shield is important in protecting the skin from sun exposure and risk of pigmentation.
  4. Adapalene gel belongs to a class of medications called retinoids. It affects the growth of cells and decreases swelling and inflammation, and is often used to treat acne. Consult a doctor if you have a medical concern.

Aging & Mature Skin

Causes

Wrinkles and fine lines are a normal part of ageing. As you grow older, skin cell renewal slows down and your skin becomes drier, less elastic and less supple. The muscles underneath your skin also begin to sag, causing, even more, creases and folds to appear on the skin surface. Certain lifestyle choices such as poor diet, smoking and excessive sun exposure can accelerate these processes and can make you look older than your actual age.

So what can you do to look the way you feel inside?

There are many ways to keep the youthful and radiant glow to your skin and we list them here!
